Hi everyone,

We have a 15-gallon tank with a few neons, 3 panda corys, 2 otos, and a female betta.  We've just added 3 "rare" male guppies and I'm wondering if it's okay in the long haul to keep males without any females.  We're not particularly interested in breeding, but I've heard about people having trouble with just males (getting randy and harassing other fish or each other).  I'd appreciate hearing about others' experiences.

Thanks!   *thumbsupsmiley*

Re: question male guppies

I tried to keep two males guppies.  The bigger one picked on the smaller one so badly that he never ate, he was dead after seven weeks.  I didn't realize at the time this was a bad idea, I'm told now optimally you should keep 2 females with each male.

Course then they will likely give you lots more guppies, whether you have room for them or not...

Re: question male guppies

I had bad situations with male mollies getting restless with no females and going after other males and other fish.

I have kept males together without females fine. In a 10 20, 29, and 55 gallon tank at one point or another. I usually do this because the males look so nice and I keep my favorite male with the females in their own tank.

Re: question male guppies

Since shortly after the one guppy died, the survivor is not eating well, even after correcting a water quality problem.  I think he is lonely.  If you can find some nicely colored females, I am told they don't pick on each other nearly as much as males, you might want to try that instead.
