Want to know for a power filter what order does the sponge and all that go. My friend told me that it is white rocks at the bottom, charcol bag and sponge on top. I did sponge at the bottom, charcol middle and the white rocks (can't thimk of the name.) Which is correct to keeping the water clean?

When I used to have Aquaclear HOB filters, the correct order was:

-white rocks (ammonia 'remover') on bottom
-carbon in the middle
-sponge on top

You want the water flowing into the filter to hit the sponge first.

The proper order, As Big Vine said(But messed up the bullet points) is sponge on bottom, then carbon, then additional media. Personally, I use two sponges, then biomax. I only use carbon to remove medication, and I never use ammonia remover... bacteria do that for me.

Hehe...thanks for clearing that up. At least you knew what I meant though.
Oh...and if I were to do it over again with the Aquaclear HOB filters, I'd do the same as bigredspecial and leave out the ammonia and carbon inserts as well (and just put an extra sponge or two in their place instead).
