Do I cut holes in my cover so I can put in the filter and heater? It has the grooves on top, but the filter one is way to big for my small filter.

hmmm... im not sure what to say. my tank had little pieces that were supposed to be cut (they were in little sections) but, you have to amke sure thats exactly where you want the appliances to go. this is particularly true if your tank cover doesnt have "designated" spots.

most tank tops will have grooved out places where particular items will go (filter heater and so on). SOmetimes it will just be a long peice of plastic that needs to be hand cut depending on filter size.

So yes more tops need to be cut to fit filters to help prevent opening space here fish could possibly jump
