I've just recently bought a used fish tank.
Size 4ft x 2ft x 2.5ft (LxWxH). Thickness of glass 12mm.
I'm considering getting a used WI tank stand made to support a 4x2x2 (10mm)tank.
How to find out if the stand is strong enough to support my new tank?
Anyone has similar experience to share?

You're looking at roughly 25% extra weight in the glass and in the water contained. I would expect aquarium stands to be over-engineered by more than 25% and would be confident in your shoes. Of course the only true way of knowing is to set it up in the garden and fill her up! :)

Agreed -

I think the tolerance may not allow for the extra six inches of water.......but it's a close call.....

Yours has 138 US gals (522kgs) - opposed to 110 US gals (416 kgs) so the 28 extra US gals weighs another 105 kgs

You're asking it to do another 25% basically.

The trouble is that the only way to find out is to try it - and if it starts to fall over - get out of the way quickly and buy another tank and stand
