quick question ?

Hi all,
When you have a disease in your tank with affected fish, if you take all the fish out and just leave the tank with nothing in it... will the disease go ?

it depends on what disease- a lot of fish diseases are actually in the water all the time and are a normal part of the tank. these diseases only appear when the fish get stressed out and their immune system weakens. if you have stressed out fish, the disease will just follow the fish.

The ick should die out w/o fish in 1-2 weeks b/c it obligate parasite and does not have dormant state.

oh, because i have a 2 gallon tank with nothing in it, it has white spot in it but i wanted to use it as maybe a hospital tank or quarantine tank for new fish but oh well if not then ill just have to start it all over again

well- if there aren't any fish in the tank with white spot, then the white spot will pretty much die. the little bugs have to find a fish host or they wont survive i believe? someone correct me if im wrong. So if you wanted to you could just leave it for a while and then wash it out (no soap remember) and use it as a hospital/quarantine tank

kool thanks, i was thinking of taking the U/G filter out of it and just putting that sponge filter with a power head on it and just no plants rocks or anything, just sand substrate.

If you were really worried just dose the tank with some salt and some really hot water (put a heater in there) and leave it for a couple days. The heat should speed up the life cycle of the ich (white spot). Then rinse it out real good with dechlorinated water and use it for a hospital tank or whatever you were going to use it for.

OK thanks, good idea, i never knew that ich was white spot lol im just at the moment where im bribing my mum to let me keep the tank ! lol
