it depends on what disease- a lot of fish diseases are actually in the water all the time and are a normal part of the tank. these diseases only appear when the fish get stressed out and their immune system weakens. if you have stressed out fish, the disease will just follow the fish.

well- if there aren't any fish in the tank with white spot, then the white spot will pretty much die. the little bugs have to find a fish host or they wont survive i believe? someone correct me if im wrong. So if you wanted to you could just leave it for a while and then wash it out (no soap remember) and use it as a hospital/quarantine tank

If you were really worried just dose the tank with some salt and some really hot water (put a heater in there) and leave it for a couple days. The heat should speed up the life cycle of the ich (white spot). Then rinse it out real good with dechlorinated water and use it for a hospital tank or whatever you were going to use it for.
