I'm going to be upgrading my mbuna setup from a 40 (36x12x17-22ish) to a bit larger since all the fish are just about hitting the 4 inch range now. I was wondering...would it be better to go with a standard 55 (48x13) or one of the different sizes like a 50 (36x18x18)? Or 58 and such...

Thanks

Depends on what you're looking for in a tank. A standard 55 will offer lots of easily available equipment options. While if you get an "off" or more rare size or shape, you may have some trouble finding equipment. As always, bigger is better. :)

equipment availability isnt an issue really, i have the opportunity to get a setup at cost through a shop.....so i'm really just interested in the best given the limitations i have. Only have room for so much, 55 is a limitation.

thanks!

How big are you willing to go? ;) 75gals are really nice. Pretty much same length as a standard 55 but a little more width. I personally hate standard 55's....after owning 2. They did the job no doubt, but their width leaves something to be desired. I could of possibly expanded my landscaping options in a wider tank. And the fish could of had more space to turn and move.

I'd personally go with something other then a standard 55 with close to equal or more gallonage if possible.
