Raising PH...

My PH is stuck on 7.8 no matter what time of the day I test it. On another forum, there is a guy who states that as long as cal/alk are good, you need not worry about PH, but I don't have those tests yet...

Any advice?

You should make sure you're getting enough oxygenation into the tank, both from surface agitation and air exchange (don't cover the tank too much).

What are your alk and cal readings?

Haven't tested those yet.. I am getting the other tests very soon.

Well low alk may also be the cause though I am leaning towards Lotus' gas exchange theory

As far as gas exchange, I have a Koralia 3 agitating the surface pretty good, and the tank isn't compeltely covered. Plus, there is a skimmer injecting oxygen at least into the water it skims. I really have to get the tests soon for alk and cal.

I bought some Lake Malawi Buffer that says it can maintain a Ph of 7.8 to 8.4, I am not sure if it would work for SW though

there are buffers that are particular to saltwater and will buffer and raise alk at the same time......I suggest you test for this along with the ph and ca.

I'm going to D.C. tomorrow for the weekend but will definately make getting those tests my priority when I get back.
