Ranchu/Hood development

Hello friends,While shopping at the walmart.I never buy fish there, but had to make an exception.In a tank full of comets was a Ranchu.A beautiful,healthy little fish.The associate charged me the same price the comets were.They had no idea what a little gem they had.We have had him now for about a year.I had originally thought him an oranda.However he is true ranchu to type.When will his hood begin to develop?He was very small at the time of purchase and is about the size of a ritz cracker now.-D

Generally, the hood should be developing by now.

I was preparing for an auction out of town this weekend, or you would have had a response sooner.

Hi Dino,How are you ?I have been away for a while,myself.I've found info from Hong Kong breeders that claim hood development in 3 to 4 years of age.Bubbles is only 2 years and doing exceptionally well.A varied diet contributes to healthy development as well,and we certainly augment his diet with peas,shrimp,and algae wafers.Thank you for responding ,D,you are a peach.-D*SUNSMILE*

Yes, a highly veggied diet will bring out the best in them.
