So here are a few fish that are rarely seen at most pet stores. Most can be found if you know where to look or a breeder.
Just a few places that you can find some of the gems of the aquarium trade are That Fish Place, Aquabid.com and even ebay on a good day. Please do not make the mistake of adding these fish to a new tank that is not cycled or if you are a beginner. Wait until you have some experence under your belt.
This list is not just for fish but can include any number of plants, shrimp or other inverts you can think of.
I'll start out with 3 fish.
First up is the Lambchop Rasbora.Rasbora espei from thailand. Lively, peaceful schooling fish, very well suited for a small community aquarium.
Another is the Galaxy Rasbora. Celestial pearl danio (Danio margaritatus).
Here is a little bit about these awesome fish. "Thai aquarist and fish exporter Kamphol Udomritthiruj revealed images of a beautiful newcomer to a waiting world, initial excitement quickly turned to scepticism. They whispered that he had used computer technology to produce a photomontage species by mixing body parts of various small cyprinids —particularly Danio (then Microrasbora) erythromicron and Danio choprai.
He responded angrily by sending out more photographs of the fish he dubbed the Galaxy rasbora — and these not only silenced the sceptics but created a wave of ‘galaxy hysteria’.
As a result, fishkeepers, from amateur hobbyists to the owners of large scale fish breeding establishments, became deperate to get their hands on the stunning creature which is universally today known as the Celestial pearl danio (Danio margaritatus).
And last is one of my favorites the Orange Laser Cory cat.Corydoras aeneus of the form designated as CW010 the Orange laser cory. These little guys are not only fun to watch but look stunning. Also on the rare side that you do not see them in most pet stores. There are a few other Laser cories available like the Red laser and the super rare green laser cory cat.
Hope that helps. Please add your rare species to keep the thread going.
Cheers
