All the residents are removed.

Water is almost drained out.

The much at the bottom is...well.....ewwwww. Thick dark crap.

This had - for lack of a better term - a UGF in it.

My plans are to:

A) add more fake plants

B) add more hiding places

C) Add fry friendly hiding spots

D) change the tank stocking a bit

E) have fun screwin' around with my tank for a couple of hours...

Personally with your stocking changes I'd do the following:

-Return the pleco and exchange for a BN pleco or another small species.
-Increase tetra shoal to 6-10, perhaps with the natural colour form if you can't find the gold ones.
-Personally I'd want more clown loaches but they'd probably need a bigger tank.

Btw, UGF? Not familiar with that term..

Good luck with the re-vamp :)

Well...it is done. Everyone is back in.

Mk, you are making sense about the pleco. I actually have it lined up to trade in him to a specialty shop when he gets bigger. For now.....he grows here.

The Loach is going too. When I do a bigger tank I think I will do 5 or so yo yo loaches.

UGF - under gravel filter. It is out. We'll see how this goes. I atrributed my lack of water changes to it but I have always wondered if the black algae growing on the fake plants from the dollar store were the ones eating the nitrates...

Oh...and I added 1 male guppy, 2 females and 1 fry that snuck in the bag when the girl was scooping out fish.

I'm going to head out to find some shrimp this morning.
