I have a 10-12 year old fantail not doing well at all. 2 Goldfish in a 30 gal tank. Both about 8 inches. A few months ago my fantail go Seticemia. Treated the tank with M II and he got better. A month later back it came. Found out amonia levels had gotten high. Did a water 50% water change including a gravel vacuum. Took two treatments to cure it this time. Since then all levels in tank have been good. Doing regular 30% changes with gravel vacuuming. Fantail got everything it seems. Septicemia came back with fin and tail rot. His beatiful fantail is half gone and droops all the time. He has been blind for a number of years now, but his eyes look worse. Completely clouded over. Two big white patches have appeared on one side. His almost never swims, just rests on the bottom. I feed the fish 3 times a day, but I haven't seen him eat in several weeks. Yesterday I changed about 75% of the water. removed the gravel and changed the filter again. He really looks like he may die at any time. The other fish has never had any signs of any illness and is as active as ever.
Is the fantail just getting too old or is there something else I can try? If nothing will help, should I let him just continue this slow death?
Thanks
