I had 5 red-eyed Tetra... about 1.5-2 years old..

I have had three of them develope red/bloody looking bumps/growth on thier sides near the tail.

one at a time...

first two I removed immediatly... the last one I allowed to stay, I have seen no infections spreading to my other fish.

The last one's growth lost its red color, but was still continuing to get larger and white...

I took him out last night..

I just dont know what caused this... nothing has changed in the system, no new additions.. nothing but normal water changes.. parameters all remain within normal range.

Could it just be old age? How old is old for these fish?

Most tetras have a lifespan of 3 to 5 years, so I doubt it's old age. Are they getting a good varied diet? Have you checked on the disease ID sites, in case anything looks familiar?

When you say you took them out, did you put them in a hospital tank, or have you euthanized them? I'm just wondering if the symtoms get worse, etc.

out of the tank and into the freezer....

just feed tetra flake food... Been keeping community fish for several years.

had the occasional danio get bent...

and had an ich outbreak over a year ago.
After some new fish were added.

But nothing has changed with the system or its routine in over a year.
And this is only effecting the red-eye.

whats the link to the photos>?
