Heya, I was wondering, how do you tell a male from a female with these cichlids? (Neolamprologus Caudopuncatus) Is it that the dorsal/anal fins are pointed? I am just wondering because one of the lfs has atleast 10 in one tank, and while some are big and some are small, all have rounded fins.

I found this website http://www.duboisi.com/articles/KBneocaud.htm
and all I could find mention is that the males are larger than the females. Should I go by that?

Thankee :) Would this be very noticable in a pet store environment? Or is it something mostly shown when the fish are "displaying"? Which is, of-course, at home when youve gotten them settled in, and the two females decide the plastic tree stump isnt big enough for the both of them, and engage in a shoving/swirling/pecking match. Or in this fishes case, the large shell. *grin*

Ile have to ask arround at some other stores before I do that, but it is a good idea. The store wanted $7.99 a piece for them, so while they arent discus, it is a bit high for what I wanted to spend if Im gonna get a group of them. Hopefully Ile get a better price elsewhere. And a group is a good idea for when I get the spare 29 gal in Feb, and Fluffy gets his 40+ gal.
