I'm also having a problem with one of my julii cories, I part of his mouth is red, almost like he got in a fist-fight and lost. I vacum the gravel once and week and do week changes once a week. The water pars are excellent. Is his mouth infected? And if so what type of medicine do I use? Thanks
Is the gravel you have sharp? Are his barbels in good condition? Does the mouth area look like it's receding at all (flesh missing)? Are there any white parts on the red parts?
I would say that you can treat with Melafix, but keep an eye on it. If it doesn't get better in a few days, or gets visibly worse, then you should start treating with antibiotics (preferably in a hospital tank).
Thanks for you advice Lotus. I did my weekly wc yesterday and when I vacumed the gravel, it was not very dirty at all. I also started the Melafix started yesterday and I'll be keeping an eye on him.
I'm not sure what caused his sore, but he's only a week or so old in the tank so I'm thinking maybe it is something that he brought with him?
