Red mud crabs

Hi all,

My son saw these at our local aquatic centre today and wants one!

We asked a bit about them at the aquatic centre and were told the are completely aquatic and don't come out of the water and they eat practically anything.

Does anyone have any knowledge of these crabs for me before I let him go ahead and buy one? tank size, lighting, heating, feeding etc?

I don't know what crabs your talking about, but is it one of these?

Also if it is one of these, they are both brackish speices and will require some amounts of salt.

I think they are the Red Claw crab although the pic in your link doesn't resemble the crabs as much as others I have seen!.

Anyway did a bit more of a search and there isn't that much info on these little critters! unless you want to eat them

I have found one article which goes into their upkeep and care but any extra info is greatly received.
