Wow, i feel like a rookie again, over the past few weeks i have lost all (stilll have my pleco) of my fish to a simple case of petco ich. I started the treatment using an organic medicine called ich attack. After about three days, there was no sign of improvement. So i kept treating, and after the next two days, and a red-tail, there was still ich. So i took a trip down to the LFS, and they didnt have any coppersafe, so they gave me an old skool med called nox-ich, which is essentially just mechalite green. I am still treating with that, and it seems to be getting better, i am down to one fish, my pleco, and he still has spots. This has never happend to me before. This is about the longest ive ever had ich, and the most fish i lost. Any reasons why this happend? Did i do something wrong? How do i make sure it is gone? What steps do i have to take before i get more fish?

Ich takes longer than three days to cure. Spots should disappear within a week, but you'll have to keep treating for a week after you see the last spot disappear. If you're medicating, don't raise the temperature in the tank, as that can kill fish pretty fast. With meds, I always prefer to do a quarter dose every 12 hours or so (when I'm around to observe for an hour or two after dosing), until at full dose. If you're there and see fish struggling, do a large water change. More fish seem to die from meds than from the ich, so it's best to take precautions.

I agree that Coppersafe is probably the best ich med out there. It has never failed me.
