Using cotton swabs to remove fungus on fish?
I heard about this on the net while I was looking for a way to identify my betta's illness. Would you consider a safe method to remove fungus (in conjunction using meds.)? I know there are some concerns with his body slime but I could give him BettaFix or StressCoat for that.
I've had him for almost a week (and he's a dark sapphire blue with red on his ventrals and some flecks on his other tails who happened to be super healthy), only a day ago did I notice that his gills have this rust-like colour to them (gill inflamation? from fungus?), his stomach started to turn white/gray (ick or fungus?) and the underside of his face started to gray (fungus?). He looks kinda bloated and his scales were starting to dull into a kinda grey, too--that and the other usual sick betta symptons (clamp fins, trying to scratch his head against glass and being inactive unless something new comes or he sees his mirror). So that night I put some BettaFix Remedy for the moment.
Also he's in a 1/2 gallon bowl (use to be a tulip vase), pH is 7.5-8.0 and no filter.
Next day, it was time for his water change and so I put him a super-clear-like-glass plastic container while I took precautions to sterilize his bowl, rocks and plants for disease. I went out and bought some Liquid Fungus Cure from API (Aquarium Pharmacueticals) at my fish store.
As for texture of the grey spots that might be fungus, I'm not sure yet.
Anybody have an idea as to what my Blue Dragon might have? If so, any ways to treat it?
