replacing cracked glass with plexiglass

I have a 29 gallon freshwater aquarium that developed a large crack during moving. The crack is on the bottom piece of glass only. I have removed all silicone and the whole bottom sheet of glass, the rest of the pieces are ok. I have found a piece of plexiglass to be a lot cheaper than actual glass. The local plexiglass supplier sells the piece for about $20 for a 3/4" piece of plexi. Would this be suitible for the bottom piece. My aquarium sits on a hard flat surface. Thank you.

a 3/4" thick piece of glass on a 29 gallon?
I am trying to visualise the problem and am having a hard time - it seems as if you have a crack near the corner and you've removed the whole corner. in that case I wouldn't use plexi but real glass. you can put the broken corner piece back in, silicone it, and place a larger sheet of glass over top of the crack, providing a sandwich of silicon between the old and new glass ?

or am I way off.

I would not recommend using plexi to replace glass. Silicon and plexi do not bond like glass and plexi. Because it is the bottom piece, I would not use plexi for that reason. I think that the water pressure will force about the plexi and glass.

I like somonas idea. Get another piece of glass and lay it on top of the bottom. Then silicon.
