Rosy Barbs odd behavior, i think

I have two rosy barbs in a 55 gallon tank with other fish. This morning around 6:30 i saw them like intertwined and chasing each other. Thats what they pretty much did for 15 minutes. Twisting turning and seeming to nip at each other. When i got home from school and looked in the tank they were doing it again. Same thing this time they took about 5 or 10 minutes and then just chased each other along the back of the glass.

This is the first time thats ever happened that ive saw. I got one of them about a month and a half ago and the other one about 4 months before that. He was alone for awhile but then he looked lonely so thats where the friend came in. One of them, the one i got the month a nd a half ago is a bright looking red thats also a darker shade. The other older one is a much lighter and duller shade. Unfortunately i cant tell who is male or female or if they are even a pair. I can't tell which one is slimmer than the other. I heard thats how you can tell.

In the morning the light was off the second time it was on. Any clue what they were doing>

Hey you have a male and female!
The males are always a lot brighter then the females. However I know nothing about how they breed, so they could be spawning or fighting. I don't know but you deffinitly have a male and female.

er wait, I think I'm thinking of cherry barbs not rosy barbs. Or are they the same thing! Great now I'm confused!!

Rosy barb males are much brighter and of an orange color(depending on age and mood), the females are more gold.

They could be breeding, could be fighting, I always kept at least 5 or 6 so if they were fighting, the fights were not just between one fish and another.

Thanks guys i guess ill just have to hope that they were breeding although i doubt it, i really dont want them to be fighting. Also i have an update i guess i havent seen them doing that twisting and turning behavior and theyre both still alive. Now they just chase each other on the back of the tank which seems safe.

Scratch that last post, they're doing it again but they dont seem to have any bruises from the last time so i guess it alright still.
