Hmm, well....what kind of africans lol. You have 3 distinct groups from Lake Malawi, the Haps, the Peacocks, and the general Mbuna (Mixed africans usually labled in LFS). You also have lake Tang and Lake Victoria, but if i had to guess i'd guess you were talking about the Mbuna from Lake Malawi.
As just a general rule i like 20 Mbuna in a 55gal. However this is dependant upon species, some Mbuna can be really nasty and make stocking a little different.
