Ryo has Dropsy?

So I woke up this morning to change Ryo's water and noticed the has raised scales a bit (not as bad as some pictures I've seen online), that's Dropsy right? He doesn't have the fat belly but won't eat anything I give him. Is there anything I can do or is he going to pass away like I read about? Is there anything else it would be?

I'm guessing this fish is a betta? Here's a link I found a long time ago and saved. Just in case I ever have a betta with dropsy.

Thanks for the link (I'll bookmark it) but be passed away while I was at school tonight. I'm just glad it wasn't as long and drawn out as the websites said it could be. If he didn't look any better by tomorrow I was going to help him along.

once you actually notice the pine-cone like dropsy..i hate to burst your bubble.. it's usually too late then..the organs have accumulated fluid and enlarged and enough damage was done..but I would still try to save him and do my best...is he the one in your avatar pic? beautiful betta btw..love the metallic...dropsy can be caused by so many things..

He also had what we think was a tumor for 4 months.

Thanks for the comment. Yeah Ryo will be missed a lot, I had him for 1 1/2 years, but my boyfriend already got me a new betta to make me feel better, he dropped it off before he went to work today. He's so small but cute, he's a red orange color with blue eyes.

Aw, I'm so sorry you lost Ryo, but we both knew that day would come. JonJon is still hanging on to dear life, and I can't bring myself to do anything about it. He is eating, but that bump is so big now, I have never seen a bump so big on any fish.
I'm happy that your boyfriend got you another betta to love. You will love him too, like you did Ryo, and post us to tell us how he is....he must be gorgeous with those blue eyes.

Wowser!!! Gorgeous! He is a beauty! It is difficult here, where I live to get a real nice red betta. They are usually darker, but this one is just unbelievable!! I had a red one, and he died a little while ago for no apparent reason. I woke up one morning, and he was dead...I want another red one, so I am checking the petshops...when they come in.

Thanks for your kind words. Red and blue bettas are pretty easy to find here in Jersey it's the other colors that are difficult. Good luck on you search.

I'm having trouble getting him to eat though. If he doesn't eat by tomorrow I'll call the store and ask what they feed the fish.

Yes, find out as soon as possible what he was eating...nothing is more frustrating than a betta who refuses to eat. Hopefully they will be able to tell you. If your betta was bred, the breeder usually leaves a list of what the fish eat. When they come from singapore, and refuse to eat, then it is a problem.
I don't know why my message keeps repeating itself, I must have done something wrong when I tried to post the pic - sorry about that.

He ate a little tropical fish flakes just after I posted that, trying to get him to eat the betta pellets though. Thank for the picture btw, it was so sweet! I named him Natsuki because the name meaning is summer and hope.

I answerd your request, only not sure if I did the right thing....a little mixed up when it comes to forums! lol I thought I could add you to messenger, but that didn't work. A little news on JonJon - God knows whats happening, I am at a complete loss with what's going on, and believe me I know most anything that can happen to a fish! The bump burst, and now has a thread hanging out...think it is skin, and have changed his water completely and added salt. I really don't know what is going to happen next with JonJon... I posted another thread with the hope that someone out there knows what is happening.
