Do you want a canister, or think you want a canister? I know Bass loves them, like I love my Aquaclears! I always have 2 filters on a tank just in case something happens to one, but you will need at least two as filtering 300 gallons is a lot of water!

What are you planning on putting in the tank?

Thanks everybody. I'm have a 22in red belly pacu and is waste is big. So I need something that has good or great mechanical filteration. So I was thinking of putting two flvual FX5 and a aquaripure nitrate filter in the tank is this a good bet??

The tank is reef ready and I could put a sump on it. I heard that a sump does not have good mechanicl filteration and that a protien skimmer does not work in freshwater like it does in saltwater??

Wow that is good news I think, but you can have a freshwater sump setup that looks good and works great? I have seen some setups on you tube of fresh sumps but they justs look like they were put together by a 10 yr old LoL, and had small fish. I have a huge fish with alot of waste.

Good luck on the move bassbonedive..
Lol, Paige has been moving her tanks around since I came to these boards months ago.
This move is turning into something completely different. It is more than likely that I will be losing my place to live soon, so most (if not all) off the tanks will be coming down. I fact, of the three tanks I've torn down so far, only one has been set up again.

Is this going to be a good thing or a bad thing Paige? Are you going to have the space somewhere else to set them up again?
If/when I move, it'll probably be into a 200 square foot apartment in the barn my friend owns. I would have room for three tanks at the most (hoping the 55gal will fit, as well as the 28gal bowfront converted into a freshwater coldwater tank for my goldfish, and my 9gal for one of my betta boys).

I have used fluval, marineland filters and japanese canister filters...hands down go for the eheim 2217 classic canister filter. I have been using mine for the past 4 years no problem what so ever. they are kind of pricey but worth it, I have seen them on sale quite often!
