I know i said i wasnt coming back and i wasnt planning on it but my SA catfish has a red 1 mm in diameter knot like thing on the top of his head and idk why. I noticed it yesterday, its kinda halfway red halfway his normal skin color, is it a normal knot or something i should worry about, i also took out the big castle decoration because of its sharp edges and tiny crannys to get stuck in.

I know it usually only affects cichlids, but is it hole in head disease? Is the catfish acting wierd in any way. (gasping, scratching, loss of atppitite)

Edit: OC ya beat me! I've heard of anm infected wound with a banjo cat before, and it got pretty bad (covered its whole body) heres a link for treating physical wounds - http://www.aquaticcommunity.com/disease/injury.php

Hole in the head disease (called also FHLLE - Freshwater Head and Lateral Line Erosion) is a pitting that happens around the head and lateral line of the fish. Its most commonly seen in fish fed largely on 'feeder fish' and is suspected to be a deficiency in nutrients.

I don't think its FHLLE, paperdog9. Fishman1995 says its a knot which makes me think its a bump above the tissue and not a indentation. I may be wrong, the pic is not that clear.

My theory (again, I may very well be wrong), is that its an injury that resulted from the territory issues of this fish with its own kind.

+1 on unwritten law, hospital tank and melafix.

Im not sure what caused it but he was out this morning breathing normally, he wasnt scratching or anything, only weird thing is since i removed the big castle decor he wasnt hid this morning

Also, i have no clue about loss of apetite because theres a SLIM chance of you seeing a SA catfish eat.

Hey fishman! Welcome back.

I couldn't say how long it would take for your SA cat to get better, but adding garlic of some form (soak his food, dump in some juice, etc.) may help him heal faster. Also, if it doesn't look like it's healing right, or getting fuzzy, or something, adding a small dose of melafix would be good. It shouldn't effect your other fish too much, as they all have scales.

except Zipper you mean :) and yes this is Rojo who is injured....the bigger of the two which i feel rules out any chance it was a territorial dispute at all because Rojo was in the castle all the time and zipper wedges up in his little plant.

Are bumblebee cats scaleless fish?

It could have been any number of things. For all we know he could have tried to bury himself in the substrate or bonked his noggin somewhere. Or, it could have been a drive-by biting. Who knows?
