So I fed my pirahannas yesterday and today I go and see the biggest one has an eye missing.

I guess my questions is? Is this a common thing?
I have 3 pirahannas, had them for 5 months now and there has been no problem what so ever, I feed them on a regular basis, (blood worms, shrimp, and feeder fish). They have never been overly aggressive anymore than regular, and I was wondering if this has happened to anyone else. And what I can do to try to save the pirahanna with one eye?

Thanks

Most fish do fine with only one eye. As long as the wound doesn't get infected, he should be OK. You might have to take a little extra care with feeding to make sure he gets his share.

Is there anything sharp in the tank he could have hurt himself on?

Well its a 20 gallon tank, and there is plastic 'plants' in there and well if you know anything about pirahannas they get agitated easily by lots of movement.. anyways... thats the only thing that I can think of that may have done that...

The eye is like white around it like the skin surrounding the eye is falling off, I'm just going to hope that he makes it and if not, then I can't do much about it other then wait and see. I was more wondering if there was any things I could add to the water perhaps that would help it survive.

Thanks again

Melafix might be good. I have 2 little otto catfish and they each only have 1 eye. They were like that when I bought them......serves me right for not inspecting them properly. However, they seem just fine.

Ya I figure its been two days now, so I figure if he didn't kick the bucket right away or soon, then he should be ok.

There is just like the 'outer part of the eye covering' (thats the best way for me to describe it as, is still there like hanging off its eye, and I'm worried that its going to get infected. But well here comes the waiting game.
