A week ago I split up my group of 3 sailfins, placing the largest (6") into another tank, leaving the two 5" plecs where they are in the 55. I noticed one of the little ones has a hole the size of a pencil dead centre in the middle of the dorsal fin (top fin - the "sail").
The thing is - he's had that hole for 4 months now. It's perfectly round, no fraying or grey edges to it - just a perfectly round hole. Doesn't get smaller or bigger either - weird.
Running a semi-agressive mixed Cichlid tank, I've seen all sorts of fin damage on fish, some due to fighting, some down to water conditions etc - but they've always regenerated quickly and completely - just not this particular hole on this one fish.
(I was originaly trying to get this one into the other tank to give him a break, but quickly found that trying to catch a specific pleco in a crowd aint easy, so rather than stress the whole tank out, I just caught the first one I could and that turned out to be the big black one instead).
Anyone seen this before ?
