i have been adding instant ocean to my SA cichlid tank, and adding aquarium salt to my other tanks, aquarium salt is real sea salt, where instant ocean is synthetic, would it hurt anything to add instant ocean to the other tanks instead of the aquarium salt ?
when i do weekly water changes i add 1 teaspoon per 5 gallons changed

Instant Ocean can bring up your PH becuase it is supplemented with calcium.

I have such hard water to begin with that I found it to have little impact on my tanks. Instant ocean is all I use as far is salt is concerned. I usually only have to dose once every 6 months. It works great if you want to keep mollies really healthy looking IMO. I see some really healthy mollies down here and they are in almost pure salt water (1.017). My cichlids dug it as well.

For soft water tanks I would stick to using regular FW aquarium salts.

PS: Do you have a hydrometer?
