Sand bed depth?

Im doing away with crushed coral and I know a lot of people like bare bottom tanks but I'm doing a sand bed and was just wondering is 4"-6" still suggested or is a thinner bed a better idea, Thanks for any suggestions

I would do either 1" or less or more then 3" sandbed. This way you are able to prevent anerobic bacteria, and less maintanance

I figured 1" or less was better, Ive seen a lot of tanks lately with a shallow sand bed. Be cheaper on sand too LOL.

Shallow sand beds wont allow you the benefits of denitrification you get with deep sand beds and require you to stir them up to remove any detritus that will accumulate there. Most sand bed cleaners need deeper than 1" beds to survive.....so you will need to manually stir it up. Otherwise go with a 4" sandbed and some nice nassarius snails and a sandsifting gobie.....
