I won the auction on aquabid for 8 Julidochromis dickfeldi 'Midnight'!

I almost lost it though. About 9am yesterday, 2 hours before the auction was over the aquabid site went down. And it stayed down till about 11:30ish. I figured for sure that some one was going to over bid me and there wouldnt be anything I could do to prevent it. Thankfully no one was able too, but the seller said that another buyer was going too, but couldnt get to the site! I have asked several people to be on the look out for these, and I passed a few leads given to me on to the other buyer. If it wasn't for people helping me look for these, I probably would not have found them as quick and as cheap as I did.

Auction went for $35 for 8 juveniles around an inch each. After shipping it was $81. Still, thats just a little over $10 per fish, and the cheapest I had found them online was 12.50 before shipping. I really lucked out on these.

I also went to the LFS last night to ask about her ordering me some bristle nose plecs. Wouldnt ya know it, walk in the door and she just got some in! lol, talk about a good luck day! So I bought three, 1m 2f I belive. They have already taken to the tank quite well. I love them already.

The julies should be shipping out early next week. I'm taking a day off of work to recieve them, and to make sure they adjust good. Plus a great excuse for getting a day off too.

2 species down, and only one more to go. Alto. calvus Chitika white. No problems finding these guys however. There are 4 highly recomended breeders within a 3 hour drive from me, and as of right now all have these in stock. With the money I can save on shipping, I am stongly leaning to getting an adult trio insteed of several juvies.

Wow. What a day. But a good one.

Thanks!

Thats a huge factor in buying the adults for me Matt. Like I said, I dont have to pay shipping, so it would all equal out to about the same. Only thing that bothers me is I have never kept wild species before, and I would hate to have them die just because of a simple oversight on my part. I'm scared of spending my much money, and to be honest, I dont have very much faith in my own abilities to undertake such an adventure. You know, the whole 'afraid of the unknown' crap.

Lol true. Some nice tank bred adults would be nice. I've considered more than a few times selling these juvis and maybe scoring a pair of tank bred adults. Or at least getting money to buy some adults. Maybe i should have just bought adults in the begining anyway :p...oh well. They take forever to grow even when hammered with W/Cs and food :p

Can't wait to see the midnights.

Yeah, I hear ya on that. There are good and bad to each side. The good to the juvies is that I can put more into the tank for now, and having a better chance of just more than one pair if I wanted to breed them for profit or for fun. I dont think I have ran across any tank breed adults yet. I would much rather get those than the wilds. Its still going to be another month or so before my wife recovers from paying for these and lets me get the calvus. So I've got some time to think carfully about what I want.

hehe, I can't wait to see the midnights either. :D

I know how you feel orion. I just got my shipment of apistos in yesterday and yep it was a great excuse for a day off *BOUNCINGS . They were pricey at $13 per fish when adding shipping charges. But as nerve racking as the whole experience trying to acclimate them slowly and do everything possible to ensure they settled nicely it was definately worth it. The cacatuoides have settled in nicely and it looks as if there may be a little egg dropping sometime soon :D . Ive already witnessed them displaying for each other. The borelli pair well they have been hiding since and i sure hope they come around soon and loosen up a bit. But its gotta be the best thing ive done since buying my first fish tank. I love these fish ...

Anywho Im sure all will go well for you. When your dealing with expensive and valuable fish you tend to think hard if every thing will come together nicely. Good luck with them and keep us updated. *celebrate

depth- Glad to know I'm not the only one who thinks taking a day off for fish is a good idea! lol. Good to know that your shipment came in well. Sounds like you hit the big time if they are already displaying. Good luck with them!

cbock-Trust me. Just as soon as I get them in, I will most likely take more pictures that I have web space for. ;)
