You can keep sea horses, and really the only way to keep them is in a species only tank, the guys at the pet store probably have to spend hours just making sure that the seahorses dont get bullied out of food by the other fish in that tank, i have heard many sucess stories with species only tanks, that would be my recomendation, but they are difficult and not really cheap to feed/take care of both in time and money so i would recomend being prepared for both, good luck,
