I have one Johanni Cichlid, but can't seem to find out what the difference in males and females are. If anyone knows how to tell the difference, please respond.

I actually tried to set up a species tank with johannis recently. When I talked to the owner of my favorite LFS, he told me that breeders will mess with water params when a female is holding a clutch. The end result is that the ratio of M:F is 75:25 or even higher. Thus it is really difficult to find females in the store.

well this seems to be a really old thread but nonetheless I seem to have gotten contradicting information from my lfs manager. He told me the males have eggspots on them whereas the females don't (or only have one tiny eggspot; not sure). Color is irrelevant and is only a morph of the johanni.

I can't confirm this information %100 as it is largely based on what the store manager had to say; all my google searches turn out either forum commentaries or poor sites with poor information. Anyone here who is familiar with breeding johannis; I'd appreciate your clarifications.
