Shipping Costs

Out of curiosity, I was looking at Doctors Foster and Smith's website. Is it pretty standard for all fish selling websites that the cheapest delivery charge for live fish is $35? This seems a little excessive to me.

I think that is the cheapest delivery charge for live fish. They come in special boxes and controlled temp. So thats actually regular pricing.

yep plus your also payinf for overnight delivery and thats gonna jack the price up on anything you order.

You're shipping water (which is relatively heavy), using some form of "express" shipping, and they usually have to include some form of heat pad.

$35 is actually on the cheap side.

Places like reeftopia and other web sites give free S/H when placing orders with high cost.
I belong to a reef club here in Austin that do group oders and avoid the S/H. Check for clubs in your local area.

Yes shipping is expensive. As JWright says, that's actually a good price. A few months ago I sent a box of fish to my mother-in-law by overnight delivery, and it cost me $92. OK, it was a fairly large box, but that's still a lot of cash. Companies get a better rate than individuals, so I don't think $35 is unreasonable.
