Should I make the attempt????

I like convict cichlids and I hear they are hardy and easy to breed, is this true?

I'd like to get a breeding pair but i was wondering if I had to do anything special(like a colder water change or something?? or do they just got at it??)

What size tank could house one pair of full grown convicts, and just them without a problem???

Oh and should I remove the free swimming fry (if i have success in breeding the cons) immediatley or should I leave them with the parents????

From what I've read, convicts breed like crazy....that said, I would assume (correct me if I'm wrong in my assumption) that no real special conditions are strictly required to breed them....of course certain conditions (others will have to chime in with experience) would encourage them to get down to business, but ya know... ;)

The parents will take very good care of their fry

A 30 gal tank should suffice well for a breeding pair of convicts

..And just a note you probably already know, convicts are known to be extremely aggressive, especially while breeding so it would probably be best to just keep the convict pair in a 30 gal if that's what you went with

Good luck with whatever you decide to do!

anthoeny is right, they dont need anything special except thing like o ammonia u kno, the normal fish stuff. you can leave the fry with the parents also. it is also a good idea to leave them in because a male con(convict) is always ready to have babies but the female is not, they need to rest after a batch and if you tank the fry out the male can evntually kill the female by chansing her always. but one thing, better know what to do with the fry. most of them have about 200 of them!

I have....i had about 3-4 good spawns in a 10gal. Had 2-3 other spawns in my 29gal.

They are hardy and will breed with whatever water you have in there. :p My 29gal was about 74 i think and the 10gal was at about 78....bred fine both times. I never cleaned the tank when they had fry..didn't want to suck any up so it got pretty nasty....they lived fine, pretty hardy :).

Once they breed the parents will protect them until about 2" or when they start laying first....whichever comes first.
