I put my betta into my new 5 gallon hex last night and now he looks moldy. He's got a spot by his eye and a bunch on his fins. I've never had any fish diseases so I have no idea what it is. I thought it might be ick so I added some quick cure to the tank. It's on his fins though too so could it be fin rot??? Help

Here's a couple of pics.

Whats quick cure?I've heard alot of people using Melafix for this kind of stuff.I've always used salt myself but I've just ordered some Melafix and Pimafix which can be used together for a double whammy effect.*thumbsups

Quick cure is some stuff that I got at Wal-Mart for 'parasite infestations like ich'. I have Melafix too, should I try that instead??? I don't know if I could since I already added the quick cure though. I bought the quick cure when I first got my tank so that I would have ich medication on hand in case something happened. Is there something better to treat ich???

Best treatment for Ich imho is heat and salt.Your Betta just looks moldy though, well the 2 spots on the head look like fungus at any rate. The darker stuff may be some sort of slime.I think I would read the instructions and swap to Melafix. If the Ich stuff (quick cure) doesn't have any instructions about how long you should wait before dosing something else run carbon or do a water change and then dose the Melafix.

Well I gave him a dose of Melafix last night but when I woke up this morning he looked much worse. His entire face had that white stuff on it and he was breathing heavily. Hubby called me at work and said that he was about dead so we added some Melafix and aquarium salt but unfortunately he didn't make it :( Does anyone know what could have caused him to deteriorate so rapidly?

Here's what happened leading up to his death. I've had him for about two months and he's always been a healthy, happy, active betta. We got his new Hex 5 Wednesday night so I let it run for about an hour, added dechlor, and put him in it. I wouldn't have added ten fish at a time but I thought since it was just him he'd be fine. That night he happily explored his new tank. Thursday night we noticed that he had this white stuff on him and he wasn't as active as normal. We did a small water change and added Melafix. This morning he looked pretty rough and the white stuff had spread. When hubby got home at 4:00pm, he said he looked almost dead. The white stuff had covered his entire face and some of his fins were missing. He did another small water change and added Melafix and aquarium salt. I just got home and he's dead. Any help would be great, I don't want to add anymore fish to the tank until I find out what happened. Was it a disease or was he just stressed from being moved again??? I've got a bunch of snails in the tank and they seem to be doing fine. My poor betta :(

Hmm, that is strange. I don't think the new tank had anyting to do with it. I would clean the aquarium and try using spring water instead of dechol tap. I had a bad experience with using tap with goldfish a few years back so I just use spring water with aquarium salt and biocoat. Also maybe move the snails to another tank, just in case.
