sick concvict cichlid?

one of my convict cichlids is covered in little white spots it kinda looks like bubbles but they dont float off or anything.

every now and then he will swim around and rub his side agaisnt something its weird. does anyone know what might be wrong with him?

i tested the water yesterday and i havent done a waterchange since i tested it ( i did a water change and about 6 hours later i tested the water )

pH level when i last tested was 7.2 ( from what i know 7.5 - 8.5 is good range for cichlids

ammonia lvls were at .3 or 4 ppm is what i remember

Nitrites are 0

Nitrates are 0 and i noticed the whites spots when i woke up this morning.

he is acting fine and eating and everything but its just weird

so my cichlid has ich and i am going to try to treat it by just raising the temp for now and watching closely to see if it spreads. anyone have any advice?

well i just got home and i looked at my fish tank and three of four cichlids are dead....

so i figure ill try to do what i can to save the last little girl and if she doesnt make it im just going to start all ove with this tank.


my 55 gallon with the oscar should be fine and will be tested tomorrow. i got the water from my neighbors 55gallon ( some of the water ) and i shook his filter in it a little bit and it cycled nicely and that tank is doing fine.

I had ich in my tank, all the fish made it but it was a rigorous process.. Raising the temp is good, only a few degrees at a time, that way the ich's life cycle will speed up.. I used an ich treatment I got from petsmart and followed the instructions. These called for removing the carbon from the filter and treating the tank everyday with the tablets, then changing the water every day as well to help remove the ich spores. Continue treating the tank even after visible signs of ich are gone because there could be eggs not hatched on the floor or anywhere in the tank waiting to infect your fish again.. Btw this treatment will kill crustaceans in the tank.. Just keep the temp high and treat it for prlly a solid week, water changes each day .

Anything an oscar can move, will be moved. :D I'm not sure what kinda filtration you are using but if you are using actual sand and have a HOB filter watch out that the sand doesnt get sucked up and grind inside the impellar.
