I need some assistance in determining/treating my convict cichlid please. She has growths or pockets of what looks like skin coming out of her gills. They are white/grey in colour and keep getting larger. It has been this way for about the last 2 weeks. I have added aquarium salt because that is the only thing that I know could possibly help. I don't know what disease this is in order to buy medication.

If anyone has any ideas for me it would be greatly appreciated as I have been to 3 of our 4 pet stores for assistance and left with nothing. She is the only fish in a 10 gallon tank, no plants, and she is about 6 years old and has been living alone for most if not all of those years.
Thanks
ande

Hmm...anything white around the mouth/gills could be columnaris...you might want to look that up and see if those pictures resemble what your convict has? If thats what it is you'd want to get a medication for bacterial infections and follow the treatment directions on it.

That being said...6 years is a nice long life for a fish :) good job!
