Sick gourami

I think there is something wrong with my dwarf gourami. he barely has any color, and there is a big bulge on the side of his body (only 1 side). Whats wrong?

By the way, he kinda looks like he has dropsy. scales sticking out and a bit bloated, but there is a BIG lump on his side

If his scales are sticking out then it probably is dropsy- I don't know about the lump- have you tested the water quality? sometimes bacterial infections cause bloat as well.

Sorry to hear that It's often too late for them once you see the symptoms of dropsy.

It sounds like it was dropsy to me too. The lump could have also been possibly a tumor. One of my dwarf gouramis got pop eye a couple of weeks ago and so I did a lot of research on illnesses. I found several websites that said that my pop eye could have been due to a tumor and seemed to make it sound like they can get tumors fairly easy compared to other fish.

Guys I have now lost both my electric blue gourami. I assumed the first one died when they were both kept in my 65gal with my dwarf gourami and the smaller of the two electric blue died because it got picked on by the dwarf and the bigger blue.

I recently seperated the surviving blue gourami into its own 33 gallon along with female betas, platys and a few loaches. I HAVE NO IDEA WHY IT DIED! I just noticed that iwas taking in a lot of air from the surface last nite and seemed to have a swollen belly
