Sounds like she could just be stressed, which may lead to disease.

Can you tell us what size the tank is, tankmates, temperature, pH level, ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate levels? That way we can better help you!

Also, how long have you had her and how long has the tank been set up?

Does she display any other symptoms? Is she eating? Swimming normally? Hiding all the time? Gasping at the surface? Any white/black spots that shouldn't be there? Any torn fins? Any fins rotting away?

So many questions, I know.

It is a 10 gallon tank maintained at a steady 74 degrees. I haven't done ph or chemical tests recently cause I lost parts of my kit (I know, irresponsible but everything has been running smoothly). I clean the gravel and change some water biweekly.

Her tankmates include 5 baby mollies from another molly that has since passed :( and three tetras, one glow and 2 neons.

The tank has been set up for about 8 months and I've had her for about 3 or 4.

She swims about a lot, doesn't hide, and seems otherwise fine. Although, she does like to hang around the surface a lot but I wouldn't exactly say she's gasping. She's very territorial of that area and chases away the younger mollies from there unless it's feeding time. I always just figured she's a hungry one and wants first choice.

Maybe she is gasping at the surface and I'm just reading it incorrectly however it seems like she and the other mollies just always come to the surface expecting food when I'm close to the tank.

I hope this is enough info, thanks.

Maybe try adding an air stone or lowering the water level an inch or so to allow your filter to cause more surface agitation. It might not be a problem, but see if it helps perk her up a little - at least temporarily:)

If you can manage, I'd take a quick trip to the LFS and have them test your water. You might have something wrong...

If she's eating and swimming normally, I might just think its stress. Don't know what's causing it though:( It's hard to tell w/o the water parameters and/or being able to see her myself.

If you've got some good frozen foods around (or even freeze dried) I'd try to pamper her with goodies in hopes of helping to boost her immune system.

Maybe someone else can help??

Good luck with your fishy.
