I think 5 silver dollars when they are full grown is going to be a bit overstocked. Why don't you try maybe a few more cichlids. Maybe another JD, a pair of Firemouths, or maybe a GT might work.

Really ??? ya think adding another jack to my tank would be better ???? an i dont really like GT i have heard they can be nasty fish somtimes an i dont think fire mouths would hold there own in the tank
i may try another jd then i think i have a male but i dont want a mating pair in there that would be to much aggression for the tank

I just think that 5 silver dollars would be too much. I think another Jack Demsey would be fine. Don't underestimate Firemouth Cichlids either. They may be smaller, but they are tough cichlids.

I think your best options would be another Jack Dempsey, maybe 2 or 3 three Silver Dollars, or have you ever thought of Tinfoil Barbs. You could go with 2 Tinfoil Barbs. They would stick together and I think would go good with the fish you have.

and you wonder why people on this site get mad at you oscarowner

I have seen several stores with Oscars and Tinfoil Barbs in tanks together. It depends, but I doubt the Oscar could even catch the Tinfoil Barbs, but he might try to and stress them out.

Well, I guess you just have to consider everything and come up with a decision. Some more people will probably comment to.

Good Luck.

IMO, I wouldn't put 5 silver dollars in there...Kinda pushing your stocking levels..and you have to consider when they reach full size.. And they like being in larger groups so anything under 5 isn't all that great. I got 2 SD's when I was completely ignorant about all the aspects of SDs..and i plan on rehoming them when they get a little bigger (or..actually..when I feel I can let them go...lol). I wouldn't put a pair of convicts in with any other fish either..they are extremely agressive fish (How Oscar's convicts are getting along, I'll never know, I guess it's just plain luck!).:) I agree with Kyle about the tinfoils..

The tinfoils like to be in a school same as the SD's. They are pretty easily startled, so the more you have the more calm they would be. As they end up growing large, you would be hard pressed to fit a school in there with the current stock.

The SD's are smaller, so you might could get away with them. However this depends on the temperment of the JD and the O's. And if your oscars form a pair and begian to breed, then the tank would be too small for anything else most likely.

I wouldnt put silver dollars in that tank. I know people say they are good as dither fish but the pair I have seem very timid, they would be stressed out all the time, When I first got them for about 3 months I had to treat the tan on occasion froom them being just so scared and stressed.

Like kyle said maybe a pair of Firemouths, I had one of them a while back and the convicts nor the jack would scare him off, even at half the size of the jack he would still stand his ground.

Silver Dollars can get from 6-8 inches, and Jack Dempeys rarely get above 10 inches if that. So one Jack Dempsey is no way near 5 Silver Dollars. That's a 3 to 1 ratio there.

U are the insane one, there is NO way that an oscar would be able to beat a Green Terror of the same size. The Oscar would have no chance.

Oh, and Tinfoil Barbs do perfectly fine with a pair. I think a pair would make a great addition to that tank.
