Skimmer and wet/dry filter

so the used wet/dry filter i have just has one area for bioballs then it goes into a small sump area, the return pump is plumbed to be outside the sump. Im slowing getting setup so should i put the protein skimmer outside the sump and then have that skimmer pump inside the sump and then put the return line where? if i just put it back into the sump it would more likely "re-skim" itself?

if i read it correctly...you should do this..in my opinion...

water drains into bioball area > then goes into a small sump area > small sump area has the skimmer in it > then it goes to your return pump.

my simple setup is all of that in one giant sump and let the water flow where it may. haha.
