I am in the market for a HOB skimmer and have been doing a lot of reading on this site and others about them. I have come to realize that most of them are pretty noisy and this will drive me nuts as the tank is right in the living room. What I was thinking about doing was getting one that I can put on a timer that won't have a problem starting and stopping once a day so that I won't have to mess with the settings too much. I would set it to turn on after I go to bed (can't hear it from there) and turn off when I get home from work. I am looking to spend $150 or less on this and I have a 46G aquarium with a decent bio-load. Any suggestions on a reliable one that won't require a lot of tinkering using it like this? Thanks guys!

I didn't thiink they were especially queit, though the cpr boxes are.
I would not advise turning them on and off as they tend to take a bit of time to 'pick up steam'. If you really want quiet you need a sump
