I have 3 yoyo loaches, all of which are very active... till today. I noticed one of em on its side. I would feed them and he would eat, but then go bact to laying on its side while the rest of them played. I put him in his own tank now, and have administered an antibiotic. And he seems very active now. This is all in the corse on 10 minutes... so I don't want to put him back in the 29G. No signs of sickness, water parameters are comfortably tolerable... any ideas?

I guess it's possible it has internal parasites. How long have you had it?

Sometimes they act weird, or will sleep on their sides, but not norally around feeding time. How is his coloring? They become extremely pale when they're sick.

Well his coloring is great. And I have put him back into the com tank where he is remaining active and appearing healthy. One of my other yoyos, he has had odd coloring off and on, since we have had them, about 2 months now. He will go from normal color, to a faded grey... white goes darker and black goes whiter, and it seems like his tummy turns a yellowish color. It is very defined by the color as opposed to a "health yoyo". But he has remained active and seems healthy... so I don't know...

They only have one cave made out of some rocks, but the kiki wood also makes a confined area in some places. I imagine it makes a good hiding place... I kept everything real with no fake decorations. I have many new live plants which I got from online, so there are natural hiding places... although this would justify me getting a 55g so I can have more hiding places.... Thanks for the info

Well, as Lotus said, they will pale while they "fight/play" these fish will often do this to establish a "pecking order" among the group, and will reestablish that order from time to time.

As far as the laying on the side problem, I have found that ALL of my Yoyos do this all the time, they'll lay on rocks or plants or right on the substrate, it looks so weird, but in my experience it's quite normal. I have seen several species of loach exhibit this behavior.

Also as Lotus said, you'll need caves....more the better, if your Yoyos feel comfortable (in their caves) they'll likely exhibit much darker/vibrant markings.

He's right, yoyos like to wedge themselves into places to sleep/rest... often on their sides. Mine all did the same thing and freaked me the hell out before I knew it was normal. They sound happy and healthy, I wouldn't worry about it
