Can anyone please help. I have an 88 gallon tank that was fine until I recently purchased some new fish, when all of a sudden slime algae everywhere!!
I've tried 25% water changes I seem to lose at least one fish when carrying this out ???, I've tried raking the gravel on a daily basis and chemicals, but to no avail. I understand it is bacteria and someone suggested draining the tank and begining again, but am reluctant to start again with such a big tank.
Anyone out there with any ideas?

Im thinking you have cyanobacteria or also refered to as blue/green algae. Is it really sort of dark blue/green? Does the stuff smell?

I had the stuff in my 90G and I used EM tablets. I cant spell the word for if at the moment but Im sure you can find it under EM. It works!  *thumbsupsmiley*

Yes, Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Erythromycin (EM) tabs. They work great, and despite what you may hear about it destroying your biological filter, it doesn't (it might in very high doses). Grind up 3 tabs, and put it in on the first day, then 2 per day for 3-4 days thereafter. This stuff will begin working within 2 hours!

Dear All,

Many thanks for the reply regarding Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Erythromycin (EM) tabs. I'm living in the UK so getting them maybe a problem, but I'll certainly give them a try. Once again many thanks for all those who took the trouble to reply.

There are other companies that make it (Mardel, possibly Aquatronics). It's also sold as a type of cure-all for bacterial diseases (tablet form only that I know of). AP is just the cheapest! Just look on the package for the ingredient. Hope you get it whipped!
