Small Heaters

I was interested in getting a heater for my 2g. Can you keep a heater in a plastic type tank. Also does anyone have a link to a website that sells them or any stores?

A 25w submersible would work. I forget the brand, but I have seen them before.

Usually, it is inadvisable to keep heaters in tiny tanks like those. The slightest malfunction will boil your fish before you have any chance to react.

In my 2.5g tanks, I use the Visatherme 25w (I think) heaters. They're adjustable and have proven very reliable.

However, if you can find them, I've seen heating "pads" sold for small betta tanks that the tank sits on top of. Not sure how adjustable they are or where to find them though

Best bet might be to keep the tank in a consistently warm spot in the house...

visi-therm makes a 25w heater, and i think ebo jager makes a 25w heater too. i know the visi-therm model is available from big al's.

So im guessing a heater in a plastic tank is ok??

I will try getting a 25w. Do you think that will be too much for just a 2g. Maybe i can just have it on low.

those heaters have thermostats with temperature control...but you do have to watch it closely, and i'd set even a 25w heater at least 5 degrees lower than my target temp. and test it...my ebo is super stable, but it's not pinpoint accurate, it definitely varies with the size of the tank its in...ie, its in a 20g, i set it to 75 and get 79...it's in a 40g, i set 79 and get 79....etc.

a heater for that size tank would cost as much as the tank itself

well the tank was 10$ and i saw a heater for about 7$. Ill see what i can find

Wal-Mart has a 25W submersible, preset for about $7US rated for 2-5 gallon. Have a couple of them and they work well.

I dont think those are adjustable though, are they? The ones I had weren't...

What are you planning on keeping in it? I have a 10G with no heater in my lounge...at room temp, it stays around 20-21c (not sure what that is in F). Have got white clouds and guppies in there, and they're doing great. Do you really need a heater?
