The price here is $2.48 per snail and they have normal trumpet snail's for free you just have to pay 28 cents for the bag. So im thinking when i go back to my LFS this next weekend im getting 3 of the Zebra Nerites and a few of the Trumpets, What do you guys think?

I love my zebra nerite! He is an awesome algae eater! I paid $3 for mine.

As for the trumpet snails...do you have sand? If not, there's really no need for them. They breed like it's going out of style, as well. I am STILL picking them out of my 55gal and I removed the play sand from that tank a couple of months ago and rinsed the whole tank REALLY well. Start out with "a few" and you'll end up with MILLIONS in a couple of months. Trust me. Been there, done that.

Why are you getting snails if you're trying to grow algae? If you want to grow algae I might just keep it under control yourself.

Also, I have MTS because I have sand, but I have like 293467239408254 of them now from my original 10. That's cool your LFS gives them away, I had to buy some on aquabid. :/

Three nerites are going to keep your tank absolutely spotless, regardless of what kind of algae you have or want. If you want to grow algae for otos, only get one nerite. I've had my nerite in the 29gal for less than a week and already I'm seeing an improvement in the amount of algae (and you could barely see into the tank before because the algae was so bad...need CO2 and ferts, just haven't had time or money to do either).

From what I understand, no, you don't need anything other than the decoration, water and sunlight.
Algae (as all plants do), need fertilizer too. You can provide it by giving it water changes with 'dirty' water from your fish tank regularly, or adding actual plant fertilzers, or a sprinkle of fish food occasionally. :)

I bet algae would grow in a bowl on your window, but make sure you don't end up with a bowl of stagnant water. That stinks, literally.
