I have a goldfish tank with java ferns, anubias, and onion plants. There's also a bit of an algae problem. I was wondering if there was a kind of snail that would do well in a tank like this?

Trumpet Snails are pretty good I think. If you have sand as a substrate they help keep it safe for your fish, mine are decent at eating algae, and from what I've read they don't hurt your plants. The only down side is how much they can reproduce, so if you want something you can easily keep without the population getting out of hand, I'd suggest a Nerite since they won't breed in freshwater.
