Can snails get ick? I had two goldfish that has died of the disease. I also have the snail. Do they get ick? I want to get some new fish. In fact I would love to get some tetras. What do I need to clean the tank. Thank u

Yes, but a lot of them say they don't get ich. The recommended treatment for ich is just to turn the temp up to 85 -86 degrees until all signs of ich are gone and to vacuum everyday and for at least two weeks after to pick up the spores that dropped off.

I was told by an ichthyologist years ago (sorry, could not find a published report) that crustaceans cannot harbor Ichthyophthirius multifiliis.

If the tank is fishfree for 48 hours (for temps in the mid-high 70s, longer for lower temps) , the ich will have died off, so would be safe again for fish.

If you have the time and tanks, you can cure ich using their life cycle to your advantage.

In college, we had two 10-gallon aquariums set up with a heater and a small sponge filter in each. One tank had 5 ich infected mollies. The other was empty of fish.

Every day for 3 weeks we would move the fish to the other tank and clean the now-vacated tank (draining it completely and letting it dry overnight). Worked everytime!
