Hi this new love of mine has come as a surprise to me. LOL It started a couple of weeks ago when I found a small black looking snail in my tank at home I guess he must have rode in on some live plants I bought. Anyway so far he/she is the only one and I have no idea what kind it is but he is neat to watch crawling around on the glass and ornaments. Hes very small about the size of an advil. Then today I went to Petsmart and they had these real pretty ones that are called Blue Mysterey Snails so I bought one for me to enjoy in my tank at work. He/she is about an inch big and has a dark blue body and light brown shell. Does anyone know how to tell if its a he or she that way I can give it the right name?

Thanks,
Amanda

my experiance with snails is that you need to be careful with water hardness, they need something I think calcium for their shells or they get thin and brittle I had two light brown almost golden snails with trap doors and after a few months they just died and while getting them out of the tank the shells just fell apart, also a snail isn't dead if it is floating around they do that sometimes, sometimes for a couple of days if you think it's dead wait for it to fall out of the shell and if they are dead they will stink very bad very fast, as for male or female most snails are both and you don't always need 2 to get babys and you can quickly get an infestation on your hands, I'm not sure what species you have so can't tell you what to look for, best to google them and look for pics to best match them up to a species then look up info on that species

Thank you sorry it took me a while to reply I have not been on in a couple of day. One is a Blue Mystery Snail and the other I don't know he was a hitch hiker on a plant I took home. A friend of minethat raises snails on another forum said to put Caltrate pills in to make sure they have plenty of calium and to also give the spinach or cucumbers every now and then.

Kindest Regards,
Amanda
