I looked in our tank a couple of days ago and noticed that there were a few tiny snails.. on checking yesterday they appear to have multiplied!  Where have they come from?  No new fish, plants etc have been introduced to the tank for months.  How can I get rid of them as they are  sticking to the glass? ;D ;D

Have fun. By the way, you will not  get rid of all of them that way but that might not be a bad thing.

Depends on what kind of snails. If the snails are eating your plants, you will have to get rid of them.

I like snails, they do a good job on the algea control in areas where fish can't reach, and they're great at getting into the crevices and eating all the leftover fish food, an' general waste control.

But if you don't like them for aestic reasons, or that they seem to have multiplied beyond control you can do one of two thing.

1) get a clown loach for your tank if the tank can support it. They love munching on snails and will keep the population in check

2) Tie a piece of raw, rinsed chicken to a string and sink it on the bottom of your tank over night. In the morning, the snails will have collected on the chicken, and you can just rinse them down the drain. Do this for about seven days once a month and your population should be kept in check. Some people say veggies will work on this method as well, but I seem to get better luck with meatier foods.

or you can  *crazysmiley* them. Personally, so long as they're not taking over your tank, I'd leave them.

I have a 75 gal that I thought was snail free.  I never see them and I have a clown loach.  Last weekend when I was cleaning the gravel I noticed that some of the little things being sucked up were actually tiny snails.  Alot of them!  They were the smaller than a pin head and I never see them except when i vacuum the gravel.  They're like a secret cleaning crew, and probably provide as occasional snacks for the loach.

I would not put any chemicals in my tank especially my planted tank. I believe the snail killer chemicals contain copper or something which will kill snails but could harm your fish and plants. If its not a problem (eating plants), dont worry about it.

I will never use a snail- a- cide again.

A few years ago, I used one. I went by the dose on the bottle. A few minutes after I put it in, the fish were gasping at the top.

It didn't even kill everyone of them. There were some deeper in the gravel it didn't reach.

Just buy a yoyo loach or squish them/pick em out.

I've heard many stories similiar to your Ruby! I just stay away from any chemicals in my planted show tank, period. That even includes medications. Why risk all the work and plants.
