Yay me! Just received a group of five juvenile V. argentea this morning. The biggest is about 5", the others about 3.5-4". They haven't been in the tank long but they're stunning already. So excited about them!!

This is the biggest of the group

Those are some seriously nice looking fish you've got there! :)

Just out of curiosity, did you have these shipped? It's been rather chilly down here the past little bit, so I can imagine it's not much better up North. I couldn't imagine having fish shipped in this sort of weather. If you did, your much braver than I!

No, they were driven up by the seller. They were going to be shipped, but he lives just south of me in the next major city down, so it was a seaplane flight that only takes about 20 minutes. Shipping is no problem for such small distances.

lol, if someone had a seaplane around here, people would look at them like they were showing off the deed to the Golden Gate Bridge.

You didn't say, but what tank will these guys be going into once adults? I admit, I haven't looked up this species to see how big they get, but in general I know that the Vieja can get really big. I have always loved something about the Vieja's, but shame on me for never reading up on them much as I know I couldn't ever have any!

Viejas are one of my absolutely favorite groups...right up there with my Amphilophus. You're right, they do get big - I believe males can get up to about 16" at most (though I think they tend to stay a bit smaller than that) and the species can be very aggressive. Right now the four of them are in a 90gal tank to grow out for a couple months - hopefully they'll play nice and pair off for me. In two or three months (lol as soon as I can), I'll be purchasing a 6ft. tank (at least 125gal, preferably bigger) for the pair to live in for life.

The same amount. I'm maxed out at the amount of tanks up and running now, so the 125gal will have to replace an existing tank when I get it, rather than add to it. So, seven ;)

Lol Katie. They're not for sale :p
