I am thinking of buying a tank and keeping a solitary Green Terror in it. I was just wondering if anyone had done this before and if so if they could give me any advice or tips regarding the GT. Thanks for the help.

By itself, you need at least a 45, probably a 55 would be better. they are very personable to people and very cool as pets. feed and keep pretty much the same as an oscar, but they are more sensitive to temperature flux, so make sure to use 2 heaters that combined are more than enough wattage for the tank. also keep up on the water changes too. Best to start with a Younger one and a good sized pleco, so that the GT is used to having an algae eater in the tank. yuo might wanna start a smaller tank to breed ramshorn snails, because GT's that i have had love them.
Good Luck!

Here's my "solitary" Green Terror. His name is Porter. He's solitary because he's killed everything I've put in the tank with him except for the 3 corys in the picture. I love him though. He won't let you pet him, but he attacks anyone that will stick their nose against the glass. He lives in a tank that's way too small, but I haven't had a chance to get a bigger tank. His current tank is a 20 high with a 55gallon filter on it. One of these days I'll get him the 44gal hex tank I've had my eye on.

Nose-to-tail, I would say that Porter is about 9". I bought a pair of GTs from a local fish store when they were about 1" long, but it only took a matter of weeks before Porter was twice as big as the other one and killed him. I thought they would have gotten along better because they were together as little fishes. I was wrong. I can't keep a pleco to save my life. That's why the tank is so algeed up. He's killed and partially eaten every one I've gotten. Even the 6" ones. I think the only reason he doesn't eat the corys is because he can't fit them completely in his mouth. I know he tries to eat them though. I caught him once.

No, he just beat the plecos up so much that they die. He's pretty brutal though. I used to have an oscar and when I bought him feeders, he would eat what he could and save the rest until he was hungry again. Porter doesn't do that. He eats what can and then kills the rest. He now lives on ciclid pellets exclusively. Cleaning the tank after that carnage was disgusting.

That tank is tiny for him - that's why he's so aggressive and responsive - his 'natural' territory probably extends about a metre outside the tank, and you're in it

You'll enjoy one! I've never had a fish with more personality than Porter. BTW, if anyone wants to know where I got his name. Have you ever seen the movie 'Payback' w/ Mel Gibson? His name in the movie was Porter and my fish is definitely meaner than he was.
